International tourist arrivals up 4% driven by strong results in Europe
International tourist arrivals grew by 4.3% in the first eight months of 2015 according to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer, fuelled by strong results in Europe and consolidating the trend of recent years. International tourists (overnight visitors) travelling the world between January and August 2015 reached 810 million, 33 million more than in the same period of 2014.

Civil society celebrates 70th anniversary of the United Nations together with UN agencies, funds and programmes with representation in Spain
Hundreds of visitors of all ages participated this weekend in the celebrations at the Conde Duque Cultural Centre of Madrid to mark the 70th anniversary of the signing of the founding Charter of the United Nations. In the course of a day-long open house, 14 agencies, funds and programmes showcased their work with photographic exhibitions, discussions and activities for children, providing visitors with an opportunity to learn more about the UN family.

UNWTO kicks off the official celebrations in Spain of the 70th Anniversary of the United Nations
Ahead of UN Day on 24 October, the World Tourism Organization, the only UN Specialized Agency with Headquarters in Spain, welcomed all UN agencies, funds and programmes based in the country to mark the occasion as the first activity of the official Spanish celebrations of the United Nations’ 70th Anniversary (Madrid, Spain, 23 October 2015).

UNWTO partners with JATA EXPO
UNWTO has joined participants from 141 countries in Tokyo, Japan between 24 and 27 September for the JATA Tourism EXPO Japan, one of the largest tourism fairs across the globe. The event was a unique occasion to reinforce the partnership between UNWTO and the Japanese Travel Association (JATA) through the launch of the Japan Tourism Award for Responsible Tourism in collaboration with UNWTO.

UNWTO welcomes the Declaration issued by the G20 Tourism Ministers (T.20) committing to advance initiatives that promote more and better jobs and contribute to the objectives of the G20 of promoting “inclusive and robust growth”. The 6th T.20 Ministers Meeting was held in Antalya on 30 September under the Turkish Presidency of the G20.
