Media Resources for the 20th session of the General Assembly



The General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is the most important meeting of senior tourism officials and high-level representatives of the private sector from all over the world. Held every two years, the UNWTO GA is attended by delegates of the Full and Associate Members, and representatives from the Affiliate Members.  

This year´s 20th Assembly will be held at the UNESCO heritage site Victoria Falls, shared by Zambia and Zimbabwe, who will co-host the event  (24-29 August 2013).

Facts & Figures about Tourism in Africa

According to UNWTO´s latest barometer, Africa enjoyed the second highest growth across world regions in 2012.

With 3 million more tourists in 2012, the region exceeded the 50 million mark for the first time ever, reaching a total of 52 million. Africa maintained a 5% share in the world´s total arrivals count and 3% in receipts. Subsaharan destinations had a 5% increase, with South Africa, the largest destination in the subregion, reporting a 10% growth. 

Prospects are bright for Africa, which is projected to have a 4-6% growth in 2013.
